OUTLINE:

The Value of Jesus
Jesus, His person, is the “treasure”! When a person values Him above all else, their heart is with Him always. (ref: Eph 3:14-19; Php 3:7-15)

1Ti 6:10
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves [note: personal responsibility] with many pangs.

J. C. Ryle on 1Ti 6:10
Money, in truth is one o the most unsatisfying of possessions. It takes away some cares, no doubt; but it brings with it quite as many cares as it takes away. There is the trouble of the getting it. There is anxiety in the keeping of it. There are temptations in the use of it...

J. C. Ryle on 1Ti 6:10 (cont.)
...There is guilt in the abuse of it. There is sorrow in the losing of it. There is perplexity in the disposing of it. Two-thirds of all the strifes, quarrels, and lawsuits in the world arise from one simple cause - money.

Be careful what you treasure!

It’s self-destructive behavior to ignore God’s good counsel.

Why the Double-Minded Person Isn’t Delivered
Reason #1
You are praying for the wrong thing! You are praying for relief, not deliverance (there’s a BIG difference). Relief is a bandaid; deliverance is the cure.

Why the Double-Minded Person Isn’t Delivered
Reason #2
You lack faith in God’s abilities to “beat” the ROI the “world’s economy” offers. Even a “diversified portfolio” is a poorly placed bet. God demands 100% investment in Him.

The Source of Your Misery
You want the FRUIT of righteousness, but you refuse to actually BE righteous!

Lk 18:23
But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.

No Escaping the Truth
The Word of Truth never leaves a person unchanged (ref. Is 55:11). There is no neutral response.

Lk 12:48 [TLB]
But anyone who is not aware that he is doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, for their responsibility is greater. [Paraphrase: to whom much is given, much is required!]

Double-Minded Unrest
A true believer will be haunted by their own good conscience until they either change or God decides to remove them from Earth by the sin unto death (1Jn 5:16)!

Jas 4:9 Explained
Let your flippant laughter and joy be turned into mourning and gloom when you realize the source of it is sin. Practically speaking, do not say, “I’m blessed” when you’re living in the world’s economy.

Don’t be a hypocrite.

Rom. 12:9 [NASB]
Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good.

Heb 4:13
And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to
whom we must give account.

A person’s nature is revealed by the type of advice he accepts.

Seeking Advice
Most people prefer partiality over integrity when they seek advice from others.
