TODAY’S VERSES:

Romans 14:7-9 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

As we continue our study on the book of Jonah in prep school, we focus our attention on the fact that we BELONG to God. When we hear the Gospel, by faith believe it, repent of our sinful lifestyle, recognizing the need for a savior, and are filled with gratitude that the Lord Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior… we become His…. Literally

John 17:9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.

Jesus Christ is our LORD, our boss, the One who is in charge. The Bible is full of His commands that, if obeyed, will allow us to live a joyful life full of peace and purpose. The Bible is not filled with requests; It is full of commands. We have been given the gift of free will to obey or disobey, but the truth remains that He is in charge.

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Whom do you serve? You should take some to time think about whether you serve God or other “masters” in your day to day life. What/whom is it that you choose over God? Like we said before, God is the boss. Unfortunately, we often choose to “obey” our own selfish desires or what the world tells us to do instead of what God does.

God tells us what we should and should not do in His Word. You may be wondering if it’s even possible to know all of His commands, much less obey them all. Don’t worry, God knows us all inside and out and He does not expect sinless perfection from His imperfect creatures. He does expect, though, for you to read your Bible, talk to Him every day, and to remember that you are to love God and others more than self. Pray for Him to give you the power to obey and teach you how to love the way we are commanded to.

Galatians 5:14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: Love your neighbor as yourself.
