TODAY’S VERSES:

John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Resurrection Sunday is on April 12th this year. Have you heard of “Resurrection Sunday” before? Do you know what it means? It is the day set aside to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. God, the Son, became a man to teach the world about true salvation and then provide it by being judged for our sins and dying on the cross. Three days after His death, He was resurrected (rose from the dead), defeating death, itself, and given a new body that will never age or get injured (sounds awesome, right?). As believers in Jesus Christ, we share in His victory and will receive a resurrection body of our own when He returns (woo hoo)!

1 Corinthians 15:53-56 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

So, why does the world call this day Easter?  It is  said to have come from the word Eostre, which is the name of a Germanic goddess of spring and fertility (ability to have babies). This is why the world celebrates with the Easter bunny- bunnies are symbols of fertility because they have lots and lots of babies…lol. What do colorful eggs and cute baby bunnies have to do with the resurrection of Jesus Christ? Nothing. So, how did this day for remembrance and gratitude turn into a day for Easter egg hunts? In last month’s Kids’ Corner, titled “Jesus vs Satan”, we said, “He (Satan) lies to the world about all of the wonderful things the Lord has done, especially how He saved us and keeps us saved from sin and condemnation.” We also shared the following Bible verse which describes Satan’s goal towards unbelievers.

2 Corinthians 4:4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

How are the world’s Easter festivities a lie from Satan and a way to blind unbelievers, you ask? Well, Resurrection Sunday is to be a celebration of our Lord’s victory over death, providing eternal life for those who believe in Him. This day is not only to be one of remembrance and gratitude, though, but also an opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. If people are focused on searching for colorful hard-boiled eggs and receiving baskets full of candy, they are distracted from the true meaning of this day. So, while the world celebrates Easter, let’s remember to celebrate and share the Good News about Jesus Christ- His birth, life, death, and resurrection.

We hope you understand how the world’s Easter is another way Satan lies to the world about what is truly important- Jesus Christ and all of His work on our behalf. Thank you, Jesus, for all you have done to save us from sin so we may live with you forever and ever!
