The Doctrine of Suffering - Job – Part 56: Faith Provides Sight
June 22, 2010

OUTLINE:

“fearing God”
Means respecting His authority and His sovereign will to do what is perfectly right and just - always!

Psa 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.

Job’s Degradation
There was a gradual amplification of a root of arrogance sown in Job’s heart over the course of our study.

Job’s Arrogance
Job’s claiming that he has the ability to deliver himself from whatever the charge against him is. He’s so confident in his victory that he’s saying he’d display the defeated charges for all to see!

Job’s Arrogance
His arrogance is proactively destroying his fear of God.

Gal 4:16
So have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?

Job 33:12
“Behold, let me tell you, you are not right in this, For God is greater than man.”

Job’s Repentance
Job’s confession and tone of penitence are now perfected.

Job’s Repentance
Job acknowledges the divine omnipotence that acts according to the sovereign will of God; this in opposition to his ignorance and feebleness.

Job’s Repentance
Job, in his humility, repentance, and re-orientation to the J+ of God, is once again in a position to learn and grow by spending BD on his afflictions.

Job’s Repentance
Job has accepted that there are great mysteries beyond his own understanding within the realm of God’s decree, even within the confines of his own existence.

Job’s Repentance
Job realizes that deliverance is within God’s power only.

Matthew Henry
Our quarrels with God always begin on our part, but the making peace begins on his.

Luke 7:47
“For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.”

Why the Distinction?
God makes a distinction between Job’s friends and Job - but the big question is why?

Job’s Friends’ Error
Job’s friends misrepresented God by supposing limited theology. Their theology misrepresented God’s ability to deliver the suffering righteous in His timing and to punish the prospering wicked in His timing.

Point 50
The boundaries of God’s divine providence are not set by time, but rather God’s purposes. His deliverance is loosed from the envelope of temporal conditions, yet guarantees eternal value.

Job’s Goodness
Job’s acceptance of things eternal as a primitive variable in reconciling his temporal suffering reveals true understanding of divine proceedings.

The Key To Success
Job never stopped seeking God for answers, which finds favor with God. His friends, however, were satisfied with their own subjectively bounded pseudo-wisdom.

Faith Provides Sight
Being so-called “in the dark” is not the same for everyone. Those with faith see by means of the Light, by means of BD, which overcomes any fear of the dark.

Job’s Priestly Function
Job becomes a priest on behalf of his friends, not only pointing to God’s approval of him as an innocent man of integrity, but also pointing to God’s disapproval of his friends devices.

Job’s Friends’ Comments
“simple, foolish, schemer, shrewd, words from a mouth of mighty wind, etc.”

God’s Grace
Does God only provide for Job since he’s the blameless, upright one in the group? - of course not!

God’s Grace
God’s perfect plan includes deliverance for even the most misguided, arrogant, puffed up individuals. But there are conditions! Job’s friends must, through humility, present the sacrifices to Job.

“without any doubting”
from meden diakrino - means to split out in your mind; reveals a lack of faith, which breeds doubt, insecurity, and instability.

Testing Faith
A person must BELIEVE that God will deliver on His promises. Relative to Jam 1:5, a person must have FAITH that God will provide them with BD.

“expect”
from oiomai w/ me - means presumptuous prideful thinking, inflated thinking, human viewpoint thinking;

Faith Testing
God knows the heart of man and his motivation to ask for BD, especially in times of suffering. He mandates faith as a prerequisite to spending BD on life, which includes no doubting.

“double-minded”
from dipsuchos - means “double-souled”; points to the emotional revolt of the soul, which occurs when the female part of the soul (emotion) begins responding to the OSN instead of the male part of the soul (right lobe).

Faith Testing
The double-minded don’t really have faith in what they’ve learned and so they don’t receive the deliverance from God…rather they remain unstable.

God’s Grace Plan
God has offered them the path back to fellowship with Him, but they must ACCEPT it as Truth, passing first through a state of humility, and then on to repentance.
