The Doctrine of Suffering – The Basis of Authority-Orientation In Christian Marriage – Part 2
July 27, 2010

OUTLINE:

Experiential Sanctification
The 10 Things To Remember

Experiential Sanctification is:
#1: Deliverance from the sovereignty of sin

Experiential Sanctification is:
#2: Yielding to a life set apart for God’s purpose

Experiential Sanctification is:
#3: Being washed by the Word of God

Experiential Sanctification is:
#4: Growing in the Grace and Knowledge of Truth

Experiential Sanctification is:
#5: Becoming an instrument of righteousness

Experiential Sanctification is:
#6: Progressive Authority-Orientation in Life

Humility Breeds Authority-Orientation
You “possess” the greatest power in time when you submit to God’s authority by means of BD. His authority (BD) reveals your own authority to you, empowering you as you grow spiritually.

Authority & Power
Being firmly anchored in positional Truth precludes evil/negative forces in our lives from stunting our spiritual growth.

Authority-Orientation
R+ is a perfect defense system. Authority and power are related to the R+ that was imputed to you at salvation.

Authority-Orientation
Since we have been “co-crucified” and “co-resurrected”, we as believers own the key to experiential victories…this because the Cross broke the backs of the evil forces in this world.

Authority & Power
You are seated at the Right Hand of God the Father with Christ - that means you are Royalty. Who has all the authority/power in a kingdom? The ROYALTY does!

Authority & Power
You stand on the basis of your position in Christ and on the fact that you have the righteousness of TLJC imputed to you.

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

Problems In Marriage
A multitude of problems in marriage stem from one or both of the individuals being ignorant of authority-orientation.

“its desire”
from teshuqah - means the desire to rule over, to breech authority-orientation; in Gen 4:7, it means that sin desires to rule Cain

“you must master it”
from mashal - means to rule, to govern, to have authority over

Authority-Orientation
Gen 4:7b represents a pattern of something “desiring” to rule something else, but the true authority is called to “master” it!

“your desire will be”
from teshuqah - means the desire to rule over, to breech authority-orientation; in Gen 3:16, it means that the woman desires to rule over the man

“he will rule over you”
from mashal - means to rule, to govern, to have authority over

Authority-Orientation
Gen 4:7b & 3:16 represent the pattern of something “desiring” to rule something else (teshuqah), but the true authority is called to “master” it! (mashal)

Why Are We Here?
  • Glorify God in time (when man loves & woman respects
  • Serve as witnesses in the Angelic Conflict (2nd & 3rd witness categories)

Eph 5:22-23 (Wuest)
The wives be putting yourselves in subjection with implicit obedience to your own husbands as to the Lord, because a husband is head of the wife as the Christ is head of the Church, He Himself being the Saviour of the Body.

Eph 5:24 (Wuest)
Nevertheless, as the Church subjects itself to the obedience of the Christ, in this manner also the wives should subject themselves in obedience to their husbands in all things.

Eph 5:25-26a (Wuest)
The husbands, be loving your wives with a love self-sacrificial in its nature, in the manner in which Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself on behalf of it, in order that He might sanctify it…

Selfish Men
Objectifying women is often seen in men taking advantage of women’s natural “responsiveness” to man, using them selfishly and never marrying them.

Eph 5:28 (Wuest)
In this manner ought also the husbands to love their wives as their own bodies. The one who loves his own wife loves himself,

Eph 5:29 (Wuest)
for no one yet ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it [normal function is to care for one’s body], even as the Christ, the Church, because members are we of His Body.

Divine Authority Rules
The ungodly, fleshly desire of the woman to rule her husband is overcome by the supernatural power of godly love produced in the sanctified man.

Experiential Sanctification is:
#7: Being a vessel of mercy, a show of God’s grace

“forgetting” (Phi 3:13)
from epilanthanomai - means forgetting a failure as a handicap in life; it’s not a literal forgetting as that’s an involuntary thing; it’s freedom from that baggage

“Possessing” Perspective
The Word of God often reminds us of where we came from, not for the sake of establishing guilt, but rather for contrast in order to give magnitude to His sanctifying work in the positive believer.
