The Doctrine of Suffering – Becoming Possessors of Authority-Orientation

OUTLINE:
Jam 4:8
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands [Rebound], you sinners [negative spiritual vector]; and purify your hearts [by means of BD], you double-minded. [ala “sinners” - double-souled]
“draw near”
from eggizo - the constative aorist means it’s something that takes a believer to spiritual maturity; the active voice means it’s the believer’s volition that produces the action.

Owning vs. Possessing
At salvation, you “own” His promises. At spiritual maturity, you “possess” them. (ala Heb 9:15).
Possessing the Zoe Life
The closer you get to spiritual maturity, the more you “possess” (ala 9:15 - lambano) the zoe life.

Experiential Sanctification is:
#1: Deliverance from the sovereignty of sin
Experiential Sanctification is:
#2: Yielding to a life set apart for God’s purpose
Rom 6:13 (KJV)
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
“yield” - Rom 6:13 (KJV)
from peristemi - has a military connotation; means to obey the authority, take orders, recognizing sovereignty/power in doing so
1Th 4:3a (Amplified)
For this is the will of God, that you should be consecrated (separated and set apart for pure and holy living)
“perfecting”
from epiteleo - means completing a course; present tense points to daily nature; active voice points to believer producing the action (aka lifestyle repentance)
“holiness”
from hagiosune - means sanctification, highlighting the fundamentals of moving “from faith to faith”
Yielding
Sanctified means to be set apart, to be holy, consecrated to God; this can only happen through residence, function, and momentum inside the DPG.

The “mirror” in 2Co 3:18 refers to the function of BD shining light on who/what we really are.

being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
“instruments”
from hoplon - means weapons; in relation to military connotation with peristemi (yield - take orders under authority-orientation)
“of righteousness”
refers to the imputed righteousness of TLJC you are given at salvation, the only reason your actions can be presented to God; all blessings are a result of this imputed R+.

Authority-Orientation
Authority-orientation doesn’t only mean that you know how to submit to authority. It also means that you know how to exercise authority, as appropriate.
Authority-Orientation
Authority-orientation means that we not only understand that God is the Authority, but additionally, we are to understand that a portion of that authority has been granted to each of us by means of our union with TLJC at salvation.
Authority-Orientation
Our position in Christ at salvation is the basis of our authority.
Ignorance of Authority
The problem is that the average Christian doesn’t have enough BD in their soul to realize this type of authority/power even exists to spend!
Authority & Power
With authority comes power. Power implies the right/ability to rule.
Authority (definition)
The power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience
Sovereignty (definition)
Supreme power or authority
“mightily works”
from dunamis + energeo - refers to God’s operational power working inside of us, speaking directly to the energy source moving “from faith to faith”
Authority-Orientation
Positional Truth is the great defense in spiritual warfare and those forces aligned against your spiritual growth.
