Eusebeia Bible Church - Pastor Ed Collins
The Doctrine of Suffering - Applied Humility – Part 2
July 4, 2010

OUTLINE:

Humility
We must LEARN (by means of BD) to get out of our own way!

Humility
We don’t have the right to define humility on our own terms. We may even need to throw out previous definitions from our souls.

True Humility
Humility is a thinking issue, not an emotional one! It is something we receive by means of BD through grace.

Point #1: Humility
Biblical humility is recognition of the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ and submitting to that authority, which is vested in His Word (aka BD).

Arrogance Revealed
By Biblical standards, shrinking away is arrogance!

Faith
People must have faith in something. That faith will become evident under pressure. Talk won’t cut it at the point of critical discernment.

Point #2: Humility
Humility Is Freedom - Freedom from pride and arrogance.

Point #3: Humility
Humility is a system of thinking. Over time, it becomes a way of life! (ala Rom 1:17; Hab 2:4)

Point #4: Humility
Humility is also a source of Divine Protection! BD protects you from harm!

Divine Protection
Humility acts as a protective shield from the trappings of arrogance. A firm focus on Christ means your back is to the cosmic sludge and filthy thinking.

Counterfeit humility
Legalism
Self- effacement
Asceticism (self-denial)
Role model arrogance/iconoclastic arrogance (putting man on pedestals)
Self-righteous arrogance
Crusader arrogance

No person is 100% impervious to garbage in the soul.
That includes YOU!!!

Point #5: Humility
True humility is the basis for thinking under pressure. Thinking under pressure means victory.

Point #6: Humility
Humility is teachability. Humility means you remain teachable as you remain under the authority of BD.

Humility vs. Human I.Q.
Humility is what keeps an individual with a naturally high I.Q. teachable. Otherwise, they rest in their ability to “outsmart” others, contributing to their already inflated sense of self.

Point #7: Humility
Humility begins with enforced humility in the home.

Pro 3:33
“The house of the wicked” is the family living in the cosmic system, rejecting authority. The children are unteachable because they are arrogant (no humility).

Pro 3:33
“The dwelling of the righteous” is the family living under authority orientation. Children from these environments are teachable because they are authority-oriented (aka humble).

“Have this attitude”
from phroneo - means keep on thinking this doctrine; the imperative mood means it is a strong command

TLJC’s Humility
TLJC’s tremendous humility gave Him capacity for life and love and happiness, and He received great achievement in the area of thinking under pressure.

TLJC Learned Humility
As a member of the human race, our Lord had to learn humility from the authority of His parents. His parents had trained Him to use His volition so that He never sinned by His own free will.

Humility
Humility is not a loss, but rather a gain. It’s a gift from God; something added. The only thing that is lost in the process is that deadly anchor in your soul - arrogance.

True Humility
Biblical humility is recognition of the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ and submitting to that authority, which is vested in His Word (aka BD).
