Jonah said “no” and ran away from the plan. He lacked mercy and, in effect, went “AWOL” on the plan of God, just like today’s verse describes.
Scripture tells us that pride is an abomination to God. That’s a strong statement. If pride were a BBQ, and boasting the aroma, we’d have to ensure that we aren’t cooking self-assertion to perfection and boasting about how good it smells.
A change of circumstances doesn’t solve your problems. Your contentment is not a function of your circumstances. A new “place” guarantees new “problems”.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. (Proverbs 15:1)
